July 26 Sermon Notes & Quotes
“The Fruit of the Spirit: Kindness”
Galatians 5:22-23

Sermon Outline – Romans 2:4

  1. God’s kindness has a                     .
  2. Kindness is based upon and in God’s                         .
  3. Kindness is ultimately                     .

Three reminders

  • Galatians 5 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit…” The word Spirit has an uppercase S on it. That means this is the fruit of God’s Spirit, the Holy Spirit, manifested in us. It is not fruit of the human spirit – lower case s. We cannot manufacture this fruit. It is supernaturally produced in us by the Holy Spirit.
  • This fruit in the life of the believer is evidence of an individual abiding in Jesus. Read John 15:5.
  • The fruit of the Spirit is produced in all its parts, in all believers. It is not like gifts and service. In 1 Corinthians 12, we read: ”there are varieties of gifts, … there are varieties of service…” Certain aspects of the fruit of the Spirit are not given to some and then not given to others. As redeemed followers of Jesus, the work of the Spirit in us is to produce the full orbed char-acter of Jesus in our life – manifested in the fruit of the Spirit.

Biblical kindness is a supernatural orientation of our heart toward other people. And it is not just toward the people we love, but to those who in the world’s view do not “deserve” it and do not love us in return. That is the kindness of God, that is the fruit of the Spirit.
